Staying Alive: It’s More Than a Disco Song

We stay alive by knowing ourselves. We stay alive by honoring ourselves. We stay alive by speaking our truth. It is so important to know what you want and then stand for yourself in calm assertive way.

The character played by Julia Roberts in the movie “Runaway Bride” realizes that she does not know who she is. One day she sits down and prepares eggs in several different ways - so that she knows how she likes her eggs. Do you how you like your eggs? Do you eat what others eat just to go along? Do you adopt the like and dislikes of friends and family members in order to fit in?

For most of my life, I have done and said what I thought others wanted and pushed aside my own truth. But when I turn away from my truth in the interest of pleasing someone else, then I diminish a part of myself. And if I say nothing to express myself, then I have a covert agreement with another person that I am OK with the situation and outcome.

Now - today - I can begin to love and affirm myself. I can be my own champion, and not wait for someone else to champion me. To walk the path of the warrior requires courage. I may have fear about taking on my own life, but I can feel the fear and do it anyway. It is so good to feel something authentic! Today I choose to live a fully expressed life.
